Cooling Fan For 1996 Chevrolet Impala Ss The live data will show what the temperature sensor is reporting to the pcm. i am not sure but i expect the 1996 will also report if it turns on each fan. if unplugging the temp sensor does not start the fans then you will have to test the wiring. at the relays you can test to see if the pcm is supplying a negative (ground) to each relay. Stock fan turn on temps are very high, 225f primary (passenger), 232f secondary. to turn on the secondary fan, the temp guage may read 3 4 to 7 8. also, if you have a pressure leak in your system, the coolant will boil before the fans turn on. check that first, there's probably nothing wrong with your fans. Cooling fan problem. i have a 2002 impala 3.4l. my temperature has always stayed at 195 to 200 degrees. recently, it has started to go up to 215 while in an idle position at lights. i think that is too high so i did the usual things like check my fluids. the fluids are fine, no leaks.
