I thought i just had a bad hand with aroids but in reality i just didn't grasp well sunlight, good soil and watering. i got myself a year later a swiss cheese plant. made the plant a soil mix that suits my watering days (more draining, more often watering) put it next to a west facing window behind another plant and it's been pretty solid.

Follow these steps in order to determine when to water a swiss cheese plant: insert your index finger into the soil 1 to 2 inches deep. feel for moisture. water if the soil is dry. do not water if the soil is wet or moist. if a swiss cheese plant has been underwatered then give the plant a proper soak in water. The vinegar attracts the gnats, while the dish soap reduces the surface tension and causes them to drown in the liquid. neem oil: neem oil is a natural insecticide that can be effective against gnats and other pests. mix neem oil with water according to the package instructions and spray it on the soil surface of your swiss cheese plant. The issue is that this can block the photosynthesis process from starting, which would cause the plants to gradually lose their color. for your swiss cheese plant, this would be a true descent into hell, and it would also appease the pests. to remove the dust, gently rub the plant’s leaves with a microfiber cloth.

If your swiss cheese plant droops, it could be that it doesn’t have sufficient support. use a stake (moss covered for good visual effect) or a trellis for your plant to grow up, twine or twist ties help it to cling to the support at first. but after a while, it grows up the pole by itself by using the aerial roots to attach itself to the pole. Swiss cheese plant leaves turning black. if your plant is getting black, mushy spots on it – that is probably rot. rot usually indicates too much moisture – either in the soil or physically on the leaves. this is usually on lower leaves that get splashed when watered. this is also known as “leaf blight”.
