Overheating 97 Jetta 2 0 Vw Vortex Volkswagen Forum Re: 97 jetta gl 2.0l overheating coolant issues (mardimus) when you fill the system back up, take off the top radiator hose and fill it through the coolant ball until it comes out the top hose, this lets air escape. finish filling it and run the car with the coolant bubble cap off. Searched a bunch but can't pin down the problem. for all the cooling system gurus out there here are the symptoms for a 2.0 jetta: 1. fans won't come on even at idle. works only when a c is on. seems like slow (1) medium (2)doesn't work but high does. 2. heater blows cool air even on position 4 3. car overheats.
